TRIPLED SALES!

Coveted Seven Letter Word – SUCCESS

Everyone enjoys reading success stories with titles like, “Tripled Sales!” We like hearing about webpreneurs, like us, who did the right thing and profited. Graphs demonstrate progress. Rising sales figures grow by leaps and bounds. We see accomplishments attained in a year or two. It feels good to hear they overcame the struggles we all face. And the outcome? The outcome is that coveted seven-letter wordSUCCESS!

Makes us feel good? Ok. Be honest. You want to listen as the rags-to-riches story develops. It is thrilling to see the excitement and gleam in their eyes! We listen intently as they explain how they did it. We hear the summarily – “Congratulations! Congratulations! You did an awesome job!”

Applaud or Cringe?

Wait! Isn’t there a tiny bit of envy, a tinge of, “Why didn’t this happen to me? Why is their success story not also my success story?” Do success stories make us feel good? Or, do they rub it in, that somehow, along the way, we failed?

No worries about reading this one. The numbers are accurate but you won’t feel the less for reading it. I promise.

Tripled Sales – Success or Click Bait?

Yes, I TRIPLED my sales and customer base since day one! No graphs nor charts are needed.

GoDaddy Domain and Hosting Reseller Plan

In 2004, GoDaddy employees received incentives along with details on how to become domain resellers through Wild West Domains (part of GoDaddy) domain and hosting reseller portals. The GoDaddy Reseller Package was $99 per year. And, the clincher for me – employees and former employees* were entitled to lifetime yearly renewals at just $99. I saw the opportunity and snagged it.

Sales Figures Tripled

My first customer started immediately, and soon after, my second, and then my third. And here we are in 2023, 19 years later. I am still a domain and hosting reseller.

Yes, the customer base tripled. It grew and grew and grew – three times.

My first customer was my husband. A while later, I snagged my second customer, an employee/associate, who heard about it through GoDaddy. And the third, many years later is a friend of my husband’s, who purchased a domain.  Easy as 1-2-3.

  • Total customers at the start:  One.
  • Total current customers (19 years later):  Three.

And, as a bonus, I kept every customer.

Yes, that is single-digit, 3. Not 30, not 300, not 3000. Three! I have three customers – tripled the number since day one. Needless to say, yearly revenue is no match for yearly reseller expenses. (I recently checked my reseller account and found I made no money this last year, despite some $100+ sales. Apparently, to entice new customers, I set my prices at the lowest price point allowed, thus making zero commission for the year. Time for a new business model and discovering business trends of 2023.)

Tripled is seven letters but does it spell SUCCESS?

This is my tripled sales story. Hopefully, there is less cringe. Tripled is seven-letters but not “the” coveted seven-letter word that spells SUCCESS. No one should go away feeling less (except, maybe for taking the time to read the post).

Domain Investors

Are there other domain and hosting resellers out there? I would love to hear your success stories (wink, wink). No, really, I mean it. I would. Ok, I admit. Maybe…I would like to hear your story.

*Full Disclosure:

I worked for GoDaddy for only a few months. Bob Parsons was the CEO. At the time, tech support personnel were also expected to be part of the sales force while also attaining and sharing technical knowledge. For every call, we were to offer, and hopefully, sell a product. However, then, as now, sales were/are not my forte. Thus, I lost my job soon after starting. However, GoDaddy gained a lot from me. I must be one of their favorite customers – with all the products I buy and with the ever increasing yearly renewal fees I pay.

But not only does GoDaddy do well by me, but I also may have an added benefit, depending on how you look at it. I can still brag that I was once a GoDaddy employee (not sure if that is a good or bad – but it is recognizable).
